Die Neuheit des cartesischen Methoden-Begriffs wirft ein Licht auf die bis zu Platon zurückgehende Begriffsgeschichte des 'Über-' oder 'Hin-Weges', den das Denken nimmt - und der in Spannung zur Theorie als 'Sicht' auf Distanz darstellt. In diesem Aufsatz wird diese Spannung zunächst in Anschluss an Blumenberg entworfen, um dann im Durchgang durch Descartes Werk - von den Regulae zum Discours und abschließend zu den Meditationes - in der Konkretisierung des Konzeptes der Methode für Descartes nachzuvollziehen. Für sie ist, wie sich zeigt, nicht zu letzt das Programmatische und Offene, das über die Verfasstheit in den Schriften Descartes' immer schon hinausweist, ausschlaggebend - und damit auch in kollektives Moment der Methode.
The novelty of the Cartesian concept of method sheds light on the history of the notion of the “over-” or “way-through,” which thinking takes—tracing back to Plato—and which stands in tension with theory as a “view” from a distance. This essay first outlines this tension following Blumenberg, and then traces it through Descartes’ work—from the Regulae to the Discours and finally to the Meditationes—to reconstruct the concretization of the concept of method for Descartes. As becomes clear, what is decisive for it is, not least, the programmatic and open-ended nature that, in the constitution of Descartes’ writings, always already points beyond them—and with this, also constitutes a collective dimension of method.
